One to One Training Information

Volunteers are trained to become literacy coaches.  New coaches receive a comprehensive six-hour training delivered by a One to One training consultant. The training is designed to provide best practice strategies and activities necessary to help a child become an engaged reader.

Coaches receive materials needed for coaching. After completing training the reading coaches attend an orientation at their school to: tour the facility, meet faculty members and learn about the student they will be coaching.  Each school provides a liaison within the building and Coaches receive sustained on-going support from their One to One training consultant.  Coaches prepare weekly coaching plans and select books to be read with their student. One to One is looking for volunteers who are ready to make a difference in the life of a child!

New coaches are required to complete the six-hour training.  Returning coaches with one year of coaching experience must attend a two-hour refresher training, and all other returning coaches are welcome to attend as well.
